Square vs. Triangular Division Organization

square vs triangular Activated as a square Division (called so due to the four Infantry Regiments) the division was streamlined by the elimination of one regiment, and the Brigade headquarters elements. Thus the Division was taken from 22,272 men, down to 15,424 men, with a similar reduction in vehicles and equipment. New weapon systems helped to keep the fighting power of the division approximately the same.

This helped the logistical problem of shipping and supplying divisions overseas, as well as allowing the manpower of four divisions to make five divisions.
